Studying a newspaper

The Hindu, the newspaper, costs more than the others in the city. That along with Business Standard, are the newspapers that charge more than the others in their categories because people are willing to pay for it. They readers may be fewer in number than the other dailies, but it is a sign that having a unique and distinct voice continues to work.

This morning, I saw a man reading The Hindu in a train headed for CSMT from Navi Mumbai. He was not just reading; he was underlining words, poring over the details and making notes of the editorial page. He wasn’t reading the newspaper; he was studying it.
